MAJ Murrell

Assistant Professor of Military Science



Major Mike Murrell is originally from Dayton, Ohio and claims Cincinnati as his hometown.  He enlisted in the Army in December of 2003.  After completing his bachelor’s degree from Excelsior College in 2007, Major Murrell attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, receiving a commission as a Military Intelligence Officer in 2008.  Major Murrell also has a Master’s Degree of Military Arts and Science from the Air University.  His military education includes the Department of Defense SCI Security Officials Course, Basic Officer Leadership Course, Military Intelligence Officer Basic Course, Military Intelligence Captain Career Course, and the Air Command and Staff College.


Major Murrell’s previous assignments include:  Battalion S2 for the 95th Military Police Battalion (Mannheim, Germany), Assistant S3 for the 1-214th Aviation Regiment (Coleman Barracks, Germany), G2 Operations Officer for III Corps (Fort Hood), Special Security Officer (SSO) for III Corps (Fort Hood), Company Commander for Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), First Army, Division West (Fort Hood), and Senior J2 Strategy/Policy Planner for USSOUTHCOM (Miami, Florida).


Major Murrell’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/ 2 bronze oak leaf, Army Achievement Medal w/ bronze oak leaf, Meritorious Unit Award w/ bronze oak leaf, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/ 2 campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon w/ 2 device, NATO Medal, and the Combat Action Badge.
